Government Dissapointed because of Burger King's Decision

The government was disappointed with the decision of fast food companies from the U.S., Burger King to no longer buy the Sinar Mas palm oil.

"It is unfortunate step by Burger King," said Deputy Trade Minister Mahendra Siregar in his office, Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur, Jakarta, Tuesday (09/21/2010).

It is said Mahendra, Burger King should look exactly the result that opens the verification audit. So that should look at it objectively, or at least the move as purely a business decision without having to be spread widely.

"But that decision is the level of business should be without fanfare lah," he said.

As is known, Burger King decided to no longer buy palm oil from the Sinar Mas and son business. The decision was taken after Greenpeace is running a negative campaign against the Sinar Mas.

Burger King said in a statement asserted, the result of verification by independent auditors of the business unit of Sinar Mas, PT Smart Tbk shows activity that is inconsistent with the commitment to corporate responsibility.

Burger King's decision was also taken after the release of the results of the verification team that is prepared by an independent verification agency Control Union Certification (CUC) and the BSI Group of PT Sinar Mas Agro Research and Technology Tbk (Smart) and the parent company of Golden Agri Resources Smart.
